Week 3: It's crowded at the top

Lightning without Thunder
After three weeks of play, three teams have each staked a share of the lead--Wichita State has sustained its winning ways, but the '97 LSU Tigers and the '01 Hurricanes have pulled even with the Shockers.  All three teams are winning in their own style--LSU leads the league in team homers, Miami with speed and pitching, and Wichita State with their blend of hitting and running.  However, none of these teams have separated themselves from the pack, with the two entries from the Lone Star State hovering with a game or two--the Aggies with offense, the Longhorns with defense.   Oklahoma State managed to climb out of the basement as Pete Incaviglia pounded out 6 homers in two weeks, although he is still only hitting .222.  Mired in the basement after a dismal losing streak were the vaunted '85 MSU Bulldogs, with a fair amount of "lighting" from Will Clark (.338, 7 doubles, 2 homers, 13 RBI) but not much "thunder" from Rafael Palmiero (.222, 0 HR, 5 RBI).  Although the MSU pitching staff has been solid, the team batting average of .219 points to a painful lack of hitting depth after Will the Thrill take his cuts.
